Laputa: Named after Jonathan Swift’s floating island and stylistically inspired by ancient Chinese bronze this totally unique piece is made from a mixture of clays and oxides .

It has been polished with wax after its final firing giving it a distinctly antique look.

A lidded vessel: An unglazed faintly ritualistic earthenware vessel with a hint of tribal protective magic.

This faintly arcane piece is made from a variety of clays mixed together and the resulting variations and imperfections plus an open firing over wood have given a subtle patination to the surface.

I’ve waxed and polished this piece after the final firing to give its surface a subtle sheen.

Dubuffet’s Cat?: a one off piece.
Jean Dubuffet was a pioneering French artist known for his role in the development of Art Brut, or “raw art”.
His work often features strange colours, unconventional materials, and a disregard for established artistic norms. It reflected his belief that true art should emerge from the raw, unfiltered experiences of life..
I’m not sure if he ever had a pet cat but as I’m a fan of his work I thought I would create one for him.

This unique work is inspired by an early European ceramic beehive and is enhanced by a figure clutching a honey pot.
The piece showcases a deliberately distressed surface made from contrasting clay, which boasts a rough texture embellished with small dotted lines that mimic the appearance of beelines.
After the final firing, I have applied a wax finish and lightly polished the piece to enhance its visual appeal.

Robots seem to be able to do almost anything in this high tech world but here is a robot that does absolutely nothing !

I realised some time ago that there is a sort of aesthetic link between classic tin toy robots and tribal figures and this artwork is the outcome of that idea.

Made from mixed clays, coloured with oxides and finished with wax this is a totally unique piece.
